The book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is about a young boy named Jim Hawkins. He lived with his mother and father at the Admiral Benbow Inn. Jim’s father, Mr. Hawkins, was the owner of the Inn, and Jim, Mrs. Hawkins, and Mr. Hawkins lived there as their home. At the beginning of the book, Mr. Hawkins was dying from an illness. In Chapter 3, Jim’s father died shortly after the blind man gave Billy Bones the black spot. Jim and his mother decided to keep running the Inn, even though they were going through a very tough time.
I believe Robert Louis Stevenson wanted the beginning of the book to be very sad, and in the following chapters, all the pirates were shown as villains. For almost the entire story, we think all pirates are bad guys, and they just want treasure, but they need help from the good guys. Jim is taken away from his mother to help the pirates find the treasure. The pirates take a boat to Treasure Island, where, supposedly, all the treasure is buried. The pirates seem like a bunch of scoundrels, and the main pirate, Long John Silver, was planning to kill everyone on board except his own crew. Luckily, Jim heard the conversation and knew what was about to happen. When the boat landed, the pirates started killing the good people. We assume all pirates are bad, especially Long John Silver, and we wonder how the main characters could trust him so easily.
In the end, we are all very surprised to learn that Long John Silver, the pirate, is actually one of the good guys, working with the heroes while Jim Hawkins was away, and that the good guys and Long John Silver had everything planned out.
